instant composition conducting (icc)

Michael Fischer works as instant composition conductor with improvising orchestras / large ensembles / choirs for festivals and institutions in Europe, Canada, the USA and Japan.
Beneath his work with the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra which he initiated in 2004, focusing on collaborations with authors - mainly experimental lyrics -, Michael is invited as instant composition conductor to work with improvising orchestras and temporarily united large ensembles, to give workshops or to implement projects within interdisciplinary settings using his specifically elaborated praxis of 'instant composition conducting' (term by M. F.) which is based on a similar vocabulary of handsigns used by conduction-pioneer Butch Morris. With the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra Michael constantly works on relations of meanings of sounds in instrumental music, voice and the spoken word with protagonists of Austria's experimental literature scene with performances at Künstlerhaus Wien, 21er Haus/new Museum of Contemp. Art, Porgy & Bess a.m.o. In 2012 he was invited to put in practice a collaborative project for choir, percussion and electroacoustic music for the festival Wien Modern.
